A working connection is not the whole story.

A mobile app can support everyday transactions while firmware updates have additional requirements. Read the update instructions for the exact device and version. “Wireless” on the product page is not enough information by itself.

The Nano X version condition.

Ledger’s Nano X product page says Bluetooth OS updates require Ledger OS 2.4.1 or later. Earlier versions require a wired desktop or Android connection to update. If you only own an iPhone, confirm the installed version before choosing a device, particularly one that has been stored for a long time.

Different products take different approaches.

Trezor documents firmware installation during Safe 7 mobile setup. That is useful evidence for getting started with a phone; it does not replace checking the current update instructions whenever a new version arrives.

Tangem says its hardware card firmware cannot be updated. Its phone app is separate software. Fixed firmware is a different maintenance design, with its own trade-offs, rather than a reason to ignore future manufacturer notices.

Ask one concrete question before buying.

“Can I set up and maintain this exact device, on its installed firmware, with my exact phone?” Take the answer from model-specific documentation or manufacturer support. Keep the conditions with your shortlist so they do not disappear behind a general compatibility badge.
